I Heart Pretty Clothes

So, what did you do this morning? Work? Go to school? Learn a new language? Probably something more productive than what I did, which was drool over the clothes at Ron Herman.

I recently worked out my student budget, and it turns out that I will be...poor. Oh, I hate that word. Lots of rice and lentils, not so much eating out or buying new clothes. Shoot. I need a boyfriend STAT. Preferably someone long distance, who is sated by paying my rent and buying me presents, in exchange for one Skype phone call a week. There is no age limit. In fact, they should probably be a bit older than me so there is no possibility of romance to distract me from school. What? You had one in college? Called a 'father?' Innnnteresting.

Anyway, since I cannot shop for real, I will shop in my head, and then post about the things I want to purchase, but cannot. Feel free to steal my finds as gifts for yourself, friends, family or me.

First off, on Ron Herman, is a little number that I would happily wear to Dolores Park in the summer, or anywhere that it is hot out:

So cute, right? I love how it embodies the BoHo style, while also incorporating stripes, which are huge right now in New York (AKA will be huge in SF in 6 months). The halter top is super flattering for girls with a lil sumthin' sumthin' up top, and the cinched waist on a maxi dress makes girls with small waists and big hips - which I hear is a sign of intelligence - look super tiny. I would wear this with little make up, simple leather sandals, dainty earrings and my hair huge, curly and all Brazilian, even though I'm not Brazilian.

Ok, next up is the perfect shirt dress for me to wear on my first day of school:

Can't you just see me stepping of BART on a sunny Berkeley morning with this dress, some black tights, my Frye boots and a leather satchel holding my computer and books? I would meet the structured, yet casual feel of this look with a headband of braids, and keep the rest of my hair down. Until, that is, I am working on a particularly complex assignment and sitting across from a cute Jewish grad student in his late 20s, which is when I will flip my hair over my head, wrap it into a curly mess of a bun, and secure it with a pencil and a wink. I mean, nothing.

Finally, I will probably need a good coat for school. A good, leather coat. Because that's an investment. Like this one:

I think I could pull it off. I know it's a stretch because I am curvy, and sometimes waist-length jackets make me look incredibly butch, which is dangerous in San Francisco because it secures my situation as a single, straight lady, but I think this jacket is doable. There is something unerringly feminine about it - kind of like how boyfriend jeans are feminine because it implies that you have a boyfriend and are wearing his clothes. Yes, that's it. This jacket would tell people that I have a boyfriend, and that, when I left his house this morning after a passionate embrace, it was chilly and he loves me enough to lend me his $900 leather jacket. But, it won't scare away potential suitors, because this jacket also says that my man is probably gay and I will need a shoulder to cry on when he comes out of his well-equipped closet.
Perfect.

Wanted: This Dress on My Body

I had the pleasure of meeting this dress earlier today while I was taking a stroll through my wonderful neighborhood (The Mission, in case you forgot):

Isn't it the cutest dress ever created? I want it so bad. You can't totally tell from this picture, but it is made of silk and I want to live in it for the rest of my life. You could wear it just like it's pictured on a warm day, or pair it with black tights and cute pumps when it gets chilly out (in SF, this means after 5 pm).

Sadly, I did not purchase this gorgeous little number. I am being a good little college student and instead spent my pennies on a pack of ramen noodles and a keg. Ok, so I bought groceries at Bi-Rite, but at least I'm trying.

But that doesn't mean that you can't buy this dress. You can find it at Miss Me, which is a surprisingly sexy website. It even has an iPhone app, which I am very curious about. But I don't have an iPhone, so I guess I will never know. So, instead, I will imagine that it's an app that allows you to wave your iPhone in front of someone and it tells you what kind of underpants they are wearing.

Ok, I'm out.

Fit to Print

As many of you know, I am deep in the throes of decorating my new apartment, which is awful and amazing all at the same time. It's amazing because I finally have the chance to design my very own space! No roommates, boyfriends, cats or parents to give their opinion and break my shit. And now whenever I have people over, my apartment will communicate a little bit about me - my personality, taste and cleanliness level. But it's awful because I have to make some tough decisions! For example, do I NEED this print from printspace on Etsy?

What about if I hang it next to this one?

I'm such a romantic. I just love when posters/movies/people motivate you, but not in a terribly cheesy way, especially since my new apartment is being prepared to be the 'Berkeley Undergrad, Take Too Many Credits Every Semester Rad Pad.' So I need to remember that I am following my dreams when it's seventy degrees outside and my friends are making mint juleps in Dolores Park.

Also, my bathroom just tapped me on the shoulder and requested this print from papernstitch:

So many decisions! I think I should just take it slowly. Plus, if I have any sincere interest in checking 'Be featured on Apartment Therapy' off my bucket list, then I'm going to have to get more creative than just hanging poster prints in Ikea frames.

Pretty Little Things

You know what's better than weddings? Shopping. Well, almost. We can say they are tied for first place in my heart, along with cheesecake and really nice bedding.

Sometimes I window shop online. Does that sound depressing? Ok, good. Because it is. All I want to do is order things and try them on. I want to have silk camisoles and fancy nighties and not a single pair of panties that cost less than $20. I want to live in a townhouse in Manhattan and have boxes upon boxes of beautiful things delivered every day. I will accept the packages in a Vera Wang dressing gown and Chanel No. 5. I will try them on in my dressing room, keep what I like, and ring the notoriously handsome doorman to take the rest back to the department stores. And then I will pour my third martini of the day. Now, I know this will never happen, but I dream about it.

And today, as I stared longingly into the glowing screen of my computer through the tattered veil of my hangover, daydreaming of the life I was meant to lead, I came across this little number that I cannot stop thinking about:

I love it! Even though that model looks like she spent some quality time with the wacky tabacky before the photo shoot, she looks so cute. I love the combination of sleepwear and day wear - which can be hard to pull off. Surely we've all seen those poor, unfortunate souls walking around in lingerie tops and coming across as trashy and used up, instead of classy and slightly ironic. With improper fit, a disproportionate lace-to-fabric-ratio and the wrong undergarments, the look does NOT work. The top must be made for outer wear, as the above one is, and paired with the correct accessories.

I'm serious ladies. No matter how pretty your camisoles are, do NOT wear them around without checking in with me or your boyfriend first. I'm here all day.

Also, that sassy blue number is available on Free People's website, which is annoying, trendy and irresistible. So you should obviously check it out. And, of course, I am accepting deliveries in my SF apartment anytime, if you feel like making my day. But you have to come dressed as a sexy doorman.
